Screening of the silent masterpiece Grass (1925) with live music by Payman Yazdanian

Join us on May 11, 2025, at Kings Place for a special screening of the restored silent film classic Grass: A Nation’s Battle for Life (1925), accompanied by a live performance by acclaimed Iranian composer Payman Yazdanian.
Directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, Grass documents the heroic migration of the nomadic Bakhtiari tribes in Iran. Known for their work on King Kong, the filmmakers capture some of the grandest vistas of silent cinema.
Payman Yazdanian, renowned for his scores for Abbas Kiarostami and Asghar Farhadi, will perform a live score blending Western and Persian influences, alongside Adib Rostami on kamancheh and tonbak.
The screening will be introduced by film historian Ehsan Khoshbakht, who will share the fascinating history behind this cinematic masterpiece.
